Hello!

I enjoyed seeing everyone at Culture Night! The students have worked hard as we traveled through each continent and were excited to show you their work around the school!

This week we finished our Culture Unit through studying the Philippines, South Korea, and South America. The students worked as a group to create Nipa Huts, which are found in the Philippines. They also followed "how to" drawings to draw a llama and a sloth, which are animals found in South America.

We ended the week by celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday! We enjoyed many of his stories, played ABC Bingo, and made Lorax mustaches!

We are excited to start our new unit next week!

The students traveled through the Great Wall of China and enjoyed stories from Japan. We visited Jordan and Mongolia and learned about Ramadan. The students created a lantern which represents new beginnings! Lastly, we learned about The Festival of Colors, Holi, which is celebrated in India! The students watercolored beautiful Holi paintings to represent the festival!

Hei, hallo, ya sou, g'day, jambo!

This week the EDK students visited many smaller European countries, Australia, and Africa! We learned about an Eastern Orthodox Easter tradition and created decorative Easter eggs. The students visited Tivoli Gardens, an exciting amusement park in Denmark, learned how to Greek dance with Mrs. Macias, created Australian boomerangs, and read Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, which is an African fairytale similar to Cinderella!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Week of February 3-7!

Ciao, Guten Tag, dzien dobre, do brey dien, pryvit!

We continued our journey through Europe this week!

In Italy, the students noticed that the country can easily be spotted on a map because it's shaped like a boot! We explored all the delicious Italian foods such as pasta, pizza, and seafood! We discovered that Italians celebrate Venetian Day, which is similar to Mardi Gras in the United States. Italians wear decorative masks in Venice on this day and the students had a chance to make their very own mask! We discovered how the story of Hansel and Gretel originated in Germany along with the Gingerbread House. The students constructed their very own Gingerbread houses using paper bags! The class saw videos of the Polka, which is a popular dance in Poland, we made our very own set of Matryoshka Russian Dolls, and read The Mitten, which is a popular Ukranian folktale!

We look forward to another busy week of traveling next week!

Have a great weekend!
