Week of January 21-24!

January 24, 2020
Hello Families!

This week the EDK students began our Cultures Around the World Unit!
We first created handprints that represented why we are each special individuals and different from our classmates.

We continued the week with discussions about what culture and traditions are. We said culture is a way of life for a certain group of people and discussed our favorite family traditions.

The kindergarteners then learned that there are seven continents and that we live on the continent of North America in the United States of America. The students explored a few important landmarks, national parks, and sites throughout the United States while reading Our Great Big Backyard, by Jenna Bush Hager and Laura Bush.

We read The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush, by Tommie DePolo, and learned that the Native Americans were the original settlers in North America. The students painted sunsets similar to those they viewed in the story.

We ended the week with exploring many bridges seen around the United States and the students worked in groups to build bridges with various building materials.

Enjoy the weekend!
