Week of January 27 - 31!

January 31, 2020

Hola, Bonjour, Dia dhuit, Cheerio!

We had an exciting week in EDK! We started the week by reviewing the countries in North America and learning all about Mexico! The students created sombreros and learned about Cinco De Mayo and Dia De Los Metros. We also discussed how Canada is also a country in North America and the languages spoken are primarily English and French!

Next, we dove into the continent of Europe! We visited France, Ireland, and England through reading various stories, watching National Geographic Kids clips, and studying the cultural traditions!

The students recognized that France is known for its artwork, delicious pastries, and the Eiffel Tower! They created glittery fireworks after learning about Bastille Day and even learned a few French words! Ms. Tsevis taught a lesson about the French artist, Claud Monet, and led the class in recreating The Bridge Over a Pond of Lillies painting.

In England, the students traveled through London and admired their wonderful architecture. They visited Big Ben, the London Eye, the Underground Tube, and even Buckingham Palace, where Queen Elizabeth lives! The students designed their own Royal Crown and worked on their own Big Ben drawings!

It is bittersweet to announce that Ms. Tsevis will no longer be at EDK after this week! After 28 years, she has decided to retire from Jefferson school! We are so grateful for all she has done to help the EDK students grow. We wish her a wonderful retirement and hope to see her again soon!

Have a great weekend!
